What is Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a facial technique derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Also known as jade scraping, it was first created as a body treatment, scraping to achieve redness to encourage the skin to heal itself. It has now been adapted for facial treatments, and very similar to jade rolling. Gua Sha promotes lymphatic drainage, helping eliminate bloating caused by fluid trapped in the skin. A jade scraper is used with short or long steady strokes along different areas of the face to target different concerns.
Benefits of Gua Sha
stimulated circulation
decrease puffiness
sculpts facial muscles
softens lines and wrinkles
releases muscle tightness
There are many ways to use a Gua Sha, but the basic methods focus on using gentle pressure and using even strokes. It is recommended to use the tool with a facial oil to increase slip and decrease pulling on the skin. Unlike beauty treatments, Gua Sha can be replicated at home, and can show some results after the first treatment. Traditionally, Gua Sha can be performed with any tool, such as the gua sha jade scraper, a spoon, a coin. It is not necessary to purchase the right equipment, but just make sure to approach Gua Sha gently on your skin.
