Dr.Hwang Patient Stories: PASC, aka COVID ‘long-haulers’

Updated: Oct 5, 2021

I had a patient who come down with covid-19 twice. While they had recovered both times, there were lasting symptoms that were not going away, such as: extreme fatigue, inability to concentrate (brain fog), pain in the lungs and abdomen, irregular heartbeat, and sometimes an abnormally fast heart rate.

Their current condition was diagnosed by Western medicine as a "post Covid-19 long hauler" also known as PASC, and has no known specific treatment or cure. According to current surveys, about 50% to 80% of recovered Covid-19 patients will have these long lasting symptoms.

Having no success with Western treatments, they decided to try acupuncture for the first time in their life.

At the follow up visit, they were very excited to share with us that their "fatigue has improved a lot"and were"more able to focus".

I took their pulse, and it was much smoother compared last week. We have no increased the number of treatment per week to increase progress.

Further updates: The patient's fatigue has improved and has more energy for daily activities, but her mental concentration still has progress to go. So her treatment is supplemented with the same treatment for dementia via acupuncture.
